Community Etiquette

While you are here on writeyourfiction.com please always follow the following rules. These are here to make everyones experience more enjoyable, not to hinder you.

  1. Please run a spell check over any of your submissions. It is understandable if there are a few mistakes here and there, things spell check doesn't catch, but for the most part please make sure your content is readable.
  2. Proofread all your submissions for any grammar errors. No one is perfect, but this often catches errors that you missed the first time around.
  3. Everyone is here to enjoy themselves, please keep that in mind and respect your fellow authors or reviewers. This works both ways, reviewers respect the authors and authors be kind to the reviews.
  4. Authors, when reading your reviews keep in mind not every review will be positive. Criticism happens when you put your work out there and remember it is often helpful to you as an author. That person took time out of their day to try and help you make your work better.
  5. Please use correct capitalization or formatting. We gave you tools to do so in the story editor, so please use them!
  6. Please use the warning section as it was meant to be used, to warn people. Do not use this feature to make your story more searchable.
  7. No strings or symbols longer than fifteen characters for the sake of the admin's sanity. An example would be looooooooooooog If you wish to break up the page use the horizontal rule tool in the story editor.
  8. To help you edit your stories we have a beta opt in. These are fellow authors who are willing to look over your stories and help you correct mistakes. Use them!
  9. 38 common spelling and grammar errors.

Content Guidelines

First and foremost, please do not use the story editor to compose your story. This is to save your sanity. This website will log you out after three hours and you will lose everything you have written in the editor. Please use a desktop text editor such as word or OpenOffice and spare yourself heartache.

Furthermore, the chapter system is not designed to store placeholders. At the beginning of every chapter, you are given a space to write author notes or comments, use that space! Never, ever submit chapters that only author notes in them.

Please make sure your stories are properly categorized! If it is an original story, please make sure you mark it as so. And if your work is fanfiction then please say so and write a disclaimer.

For Fanfiction, disclaimers are there to protect you. You only have to write it once when you first submit the story and it will be displayed on the top of each chapter.

Entries not allowed:

  1. Stories that have less then a hundred words.
  2. Any kind of non-story. Such as lists, challenges (we have a whole section for that) bloopers, polls, previews, author notes, or requests for help.
  3. Comments inserted in between the flow of a copied story, like the harry potter reads stories.
  4. Interactive stories, such as choose your own adventure, or Q&A.
  5. Any stories with non-fiction, non-historical characters. This means no musicians, actors or anyone who was or is a living breathing person. This gets creepy, fast.

Prohibited actions

  1. Miss-labeling or miss-categorizing your stories on purpose to submit your story to this site more than once.
  2. Multiple entries of the same story to gain more views.
  3. Publishing any published or copywritten works, this does include lyrics, movie scripts, poetry etc.

General rules

  1. All titles, descriptions, and disclaimers must be rated k. Anyone can browse the site, including your grandmother. So if you think it might make your grandmother blush, then don't do it!
  2. Rate your stories properly! It is understandable that as a story continues on twists may make the story darker. If that happens, then please change the rating. Remember, blushing grandmothers!
  3. Place your story in the right category. Imagine thinking you're going to read about one thing and it's actually something entirely different. That wouldn't be fun.
  4. Please do not submit chapters as separate stories! Group them together, make it easy on the reader!

Content ratings

We are incorporating the rating system from fictionratings.com

  • K: is suitable for most ages
  • K+: is for people 9 and up and may not be suitable for young children
  • T: 13+: content is not suitable for children
  • M: 16+: content is only suitable for mature teens and adults

This site does not allow stories rated MA. This includes any content that has explicate sexual scenes, any physical interactions, or anything violent in nature.

These following authors have asked other websites to remove their works from their sites. We will respect their wish not to have other people write fanfiction about their works. Anything with these following authors will be removed.

If you are an author and wish to be included on this list, please contact us.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in your stories removed or your account banned.
